Pork source and brand
can be scientifically verified with DNA testing.

DNA traceability allows the farm from which pork originated to be traced through the use of DNA analysis techniques.

This system uses mitochondria DNA and nuclear genome DNA SNP analysis to perform individual recognition and paternity determination techniques. Because this technique uses the DNA of swine from when they are born, it can be used as a scientific verification method of identifying origin, allowing branded pork to be protected against mislabeling.
This system can also be used as a means by which to verify the accuracy of previously introduced tag traceability systems. Additionally, DNA will be compiled into a database in the near future, allowing for advances in breeding.

A DNA testing system that is reliable and easy!

Recommended for:
(Ex: Berkshire Pigs)
Establish a brand as Berkshire pigs raised in a specific locality
Branded swine can be scientifically verified with DNA to identify the area and farm of origin and, as result, prevented from being mislabeled.
(1) Brand can be established upon a scientific basis through the use of DNA, even with visually indistinguishable dressed and processed meats.
(2) Due to the stable nature of DNA, production history can be traced even when extracting a DNA sample from cooked pork.
Tagging can be very difficult and time-consuming with conventional systems such as IC tag traceability? all swine and pork must be consistently tagged from upstream (farm of origin) to downstream (retailers). However, the DNA traceability system minimizes cost and labor, all the while providing a scientific means by which to verify origin.
Additionally, this system can also be used as a means of determining whether already-established tag traceability systems are accurate.
Breeding can be improved simply by inputting DNA information into a database. Analyzing crossbred swine with DNA traceability is tremendously useful in the formation of a family pedigree, examining inbred lines and in the mitigation of inbreeding.

Applications to meat quality diagnostics are slated for future development.

We also offer a Brand Identification Service
that implements such DNA analysis techniques.
